Water pump gasket

Post by georgeramos »

Got Francesco put back together again today. Started up and had several minor issues...

-Carb linkage needs re-doing after switching to the single plane, it wasnt allowing the throttle to close so it was revving wildly
-Oil seeping from the new valve cover gaskets
-coolant leaking from the water pump gasket area. It will not stop by tightening. Any thoughts on this one?
-Air in the system, I will be adding T-flush at the heater hose

On the bright side the car sounds great, smooth running, and the timing was dead on.

I will get these things worked out soon!

When I replaced my water pump, I purchased some of that cork gasket material, traced the outline of the water pump on it and pushed down just slightly to dent in where to cut to form the gasket. Then I used a hole punch (like for paper - one of those you get at the 99 cent store - like a pair of pliers thing) to cut out the circles for the bolts. Workes great. 2 years and still no leaks - I bet I just jinxed myself huh -
