lol. Man, you guys are serious about this :D Sry no underneath shots. I would stick to the factory recommended jacking points shown in the pic. For general maintenance there's really no need (that I know of) to jack the car up from anywhere else.

This is all well and good for working on the car, but here in the frozen north those of us with un-heated garages just need to store the Spider, and IAP recommends NOT dropping the suspension (which all of the methods shown in this thread do) when up on jacks for winter storage. This is supposedly because of the damage it can do to shock absorber seals by allowing the shocks to "stretch out" all winter. Using the jacks under the rear axle housing is a no brainer, but what jack points can you use in the front that will NOT drop the front wheels AND not damage the suspension? Seems tricky to me.

Now I am confused :? Last winter I merely parked Fiona in my unheated garage after doing the necessary prep in December then drove her out in March with zero issues  This year I am doing some projects so the front end is currently jacked using the jack points Image Perhaps some wooden blocks underneath the suspension might help :?

I had mine up on jacks all last winter with the front wheels dropped (jack stands on the crossmember) and I saw no consequences. But it had 32 year old shocks on it, and now it has new ones, so just trying to be careful. Here is the IAP article I mentioned: http://www.international-auto.com/afla- ... e-tips.cfm
See #9: "various suspension components" seems a bit vague!

That is too funny  I too had original suspension and shocks last winter Image

I found this so who knows :?

On The Ground? Off The Ground?

Next you'll need to decide whether to raise the vehicle for storage or leave it sitting on the ground. Flat spots on the tires used to be the main reason to store a vehicle raised off the ground, but with modern day tires, this has become less of an issue.
Generally, if the car is only parked for the winter, storing it on the ground should be fine. Over-inflating your tires by 5-8 pounds can help prevent flat spotting over the winter.
If you are raising it off the ground, you're next decision is whether or not to remove the wheels. Some people prefer to remove the wheels when storing a car, rather than have them in a high traffic garage area where expensive rims can be damaged.

I'm really liking the idea of just over-inflating the tires. Since the car made a 1366 mile trip with no problems just 2 months ago, don't really have much reason to crawl under it this winter anyway.

Happy Holidays everyone.
