My speedo will start sounding off at 20 and then get
progressively louder until by 50+...
it sounds like a chain saw on jet fuel ....
this will last maybe 3-5 mins and then
silence for hours....and days...and then
BACK ! Loud as hell.
most common problem is a dry speedo cable, cleaning and lubing the cable usually cures the trouble unless the cable or sheath has a burr. Does the speedo needle fluctuate when it's noisy?

bouncing needle confirms that the cable is binding in the sheath. You'll have to do undo the cable housing from the back of the speedo, then slide the inner cable out. Clean it and relube it with light grease, Vasoline works well.
