Jay,
I feel your pain, man.
My driver's side was difficult like yours.
My passenger side ball joints popped right out -- no problem!
Good luck on it. It's all worth it in the end.

As a note to all, the steering knuckle ball joint bolt holes are TAPERED  I was originally going the wrong direction with my attempted drill outs (broke a total of 3 Colbalt drill bits SOB). The correct way is from the inside of the holes to the outside

Speaking of broken

Image

Does anybody know the best way to fix? Would it be better to replace the whole brake line or can I just put in some sort of compression fitting? :?

The driver's side front is a very short brake line. I'd just replace the whole thing.

Jay,
Zulu is right.
Just replace the whole thing.
Compression fittings in brake lines are very dangerous and not reliable IMHO.
None of us want to see your beauty run off the road or hit something due to a failed compression fitting!

Okay, had a bit of a delay with our Jeep breaking down on the hwy  buying a new car (see signature below :D and some school plays :P tried to get back on track today only to find out that the parts I ordered from http://www.vickauto.com/newstore/ are apparently NOT the correct parts  I even called and was re-assured when there were rumors floating around that these were not Fiat parts etc. Well, looks like I have learned a life lesson today

Original upper A arm and new from Vick's
(new one had issues with bolt hole line up

Image

New lower shock support does not fit SOB!

THANKS VICKS, I LOVE BUYING "FIAT 124 PARTS" THAT DO NOT WORK/FIT

Image

Putting the frustration aside, I was able to push the bolt sleeve through and cut off the excess to make the shocks fit. Needless to say I will be taking my business elsewhere

have yet to put it in. I was able to pick up some steel brake lines at Partsource and they come with a bubble flare :D I also picked up http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4 ... ?locale=en so I am all ready. Just trying to deal with the A arms for now then put in the brake line. The best part is that I have to do it all again on the passenger side when I am done LMFAO!

Hi Jay, Sorry to read you had a bad experience with your supplier, Im in the same process as you at present have to admit... my mechanic is doing all the hard work.I don't have the means or space to do anything from home so just like to say hats off to you for doing such a great job.

Parts supplied and installed today, New Crossmember,New Set of 4 A-Arms,New Front & Rear Sway Bars, New front & Rear Lowered 30 mm Yellow King Springs, and New Front & Rear Yellow Konis.

All supplied from Vick Auto, my mechanic was more than happy with the installation, no problems at all, keep in mind that I had to import everything to OZ so we had Gods Blessings.

Keep up the great work Jay as you and others like you inspire me to keep this beautiful car alive :D
Cheers
John.

Thanks John. Guess I got the ones that were made on a Friday of a long weekend  My issue is that I would never expect new parts to fit in with existing parts without some "tweaking" however, it is beyond frustrating when new parts (that need to be assembled) do not fit properly amongst themselves  :? :x Either way moving forward and have learned.

tried to compress my spring with my internal spring compressor AAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH :x Got so far only to have no extender for my 24" socket  Try again tomorrow after visiting the hardware store

rather than give up I thought I would try to install my new steel brake lines, I must have been given the incorrect lines. When I tried to install the line I ran into this little issue

On the left is the new line
You can see on the threads how far in it goes
hmmmmmm :-(

This is as far as they go WTF?!

The thread looks the same, but can you measure the overall diameter ("major diameter") of each of them and then the number of threads per inch ("pitch") and compare? Looks like your new one is binding up after 1 thread or so, the pitch is probably incorrect.
