Paint code

Post by milwmort »

I have a 1978 Fiat Spider. Built in 1977 according to the door plate. The paint code on the trunk lid is DUCO GIALLO FI 223

I cant find a match for this anywhere. The 223 number matches to a 77 but its called pagoda yellow. I am just a couple weeks away from ordering paint and I have no Idea where to go or how much to order. Any ideas on where to order paint and find the correct paint match?

Try tcpglobal.com. They have a color library for fiats and most other cars. You can look up the color by number and name in the library then choose which paint system to order

Could it be that some color names may have been changed or were altered to cater for the export market?
For the inquizitive it's quiet an interesting topic the old Fiat paint codes.

Is there any one information pool on the subject yet, anywhere?

Fi8 is right. The sticker on the underside of my trunk lid says my car is "grigio fumo met". The North American colour charts call it "smoke grey metallic". I ordered a can of touch up from carpaintsonline.com in smoke grey that had the same colour number as the grigio fumo sticker on my trunk lid and it matched perfectly.

I think I remember this being covered on Mira at one point. I remember (don't trust my memory without dbl checking yourself) that the point was to ignore the name and pay attention to the number. Seems as if the same number was even associated to different names over several years. For example "metallic blue" could be number XYZ in 1979, but in 1981 XYZ was associated with "Metallic Sky blue" (all made up for the purpose of demonstration) If you look in the trunk, I'm pretty sure most fiat cars have the italian color names. For example mine says "Azzurro Metallizza" which just translates to Metallic Blue.

I just checked the carpaintsonline.com website. It shows the Fiat OEM code 223 as Pagoda Yellow, so you should be fine.
