This isn't spider related but don't know where else to put

Post by skumandeth »

I have just recently purchased a 1975 131S mirafiori. I know it's the same 1800 that was in my 124, but, does anyone have any info on these strange sedans. This one is 2dr with 5spd. I've seen some info on euro models but hardly anything on the US models. Does anyone have any idea how many of these might be left. I know it's the first I've ever seen. Any info I'd greatly appreciate.

are you sure that has a DOHC 1500 in it? I was thinking that was a SOHC in the Brava back then.

wikipedia says you should have a 1.8 SOHC? am I reading that right? have you read the wikipedia page? Not like it's the most reliable source ever, but should be a good start. i'm still trying to figure out what's what re: your year and the US market...

the 131s all had twin cams, don't believe wikipedia. The two door 5spds are pretty rare in the US and desirable

I owned two of these great cars. Both 2 door coupes, and they are the best FIATS I have owned. Your 1975 (in the USA) came with the 1756CC carb'd engine and a 5 speed. The first was a used 1975, and the second was a new 1978.

My 1978 131 (bought in November 1977) had only 110 miles on it, new from the dealer, and it was my first new car. I took advantage of a great year end sale and a gopod trade-in price to get into a new car!

The day before I picked up the 131, our 1970 BC 124 coupe was totalled in an acccident. About a week before I had ordered a whole suite of performance parts for its 1608 motor (from Bayless and Serra), and now had no coupe to put them in.

The performance parts arrived the day I picked the 131 up, so with just 110 miles on the clock, I pulled the engine and put in HC forged pistons, dual DCNFs on an alquati manifold, Serra 40/80 80/40 cams, big valves, tapered valve guides, a aluminum pulleys and ligtened flywheel, header, and an electronic fuel pump and ignition! What else could I do? I had saved more than a year to buy those parts, and I was NOT going to send them back!

I drove that car every day as my only car (and often our family's only car) for 8 years, and sold it with 158K on it. It was terrific the whole time.

The 2 doors are really hard to find. Let me know if you decide not to keep it.

Rare as rocking horse poo and worth a reasonable dollar. Just don't butcher it to make an Abarth wrecklica!

In the US maybe, but many of them came out with the push rod 1600 elsewhere.

Hey Mick, I was almost going to say the same thing, but then I noticed the 's' 131s, thought to mean 2 door not plural 131's??
I haven't seen a pushrod 2 door but in saying that I have only seen a handful of 2 doors, do remember seeing one in Itlay about 15 years ago for sale, apart form the 2 doors the rest looked pretty standard, it did have a twin cam but only 1 carb??

Like many of the Fiat sedans, a face that only a Fiatsi could love. Everybody else in the world will tell you it's fugly. I think it's freakin' sweet. Do me a favor and keep it that green color if you repaint. I love it. Maybe dropping the bumpers would look pretty sweet, too. I know I plan on ditching the bumpers on my 128.

Here in Britain, we did have the pushrod engine in this model 1300, and 1600. If fact I had a 1600 auto as a donor when I was restoring my 131 sport, these were good donor cars as they seem to have a easier life. Also because it was a auto meant the bellhousing could be used in a 16v conversion...starter on the opposite side...cool car.

My first car was a '76 2dr 128 traded a cord of wood and $75 for it. Loved that car unfortunately it didn't last long in the hands of a 16yr old. But it also drove my interest in these fugly italian cars. Than several years got my cs1 124 and my friends all think I'm nuts but I do love them. I don't know if I'll get rid of the bumpers completely but may find a way to drain the bumper shocks and push them in tight against the body and pin them. I think that would be a vast improvement. As far as color it was repainted 15 yrs ago and this is pretty close to the original color so do intend on leaving it. unfortunately the d/s rear wheel arch has some pretty bad cancer bubbles, not quite sure what to do there because finding a patch panel might be close to impossible.
