How many winter Spiders are out there?

Post by giuliot60 »

I know this is the time of year many of us put their Spider away, and I don't blame those who live in salt infested snow areas. But I was curious how many of us keep driving the car all year round.

I used to drive my '74 all year round in the NYC area during the 80's, but it was my only car back then. Here in the Charlotte area the winters are mild and I plan on keeping her on the road.

Curious.

I'll drive mine all winter as long as it runs.

(and there isn't anything mild about the winters here, but I have a 4x4 for when I'm not in the Fiat)

I live close to St louis and I drive mine when the sun is out and there is NO salt on the roads. The problem is around here they salt the roads a the first hint of snow and it takes a good rain to get it off so that you can drive salt free. I will drive at 30 degrees with the top down.

Same here, will drive it if the roads are dry and the salt has been washed away by a rainfall! But I lucked out this year and have heated indoor storage available, so we may just take a nice rest until late March. :)

I drive mine all year as long as it is sunny. My wife won't go with me if it's cold but I still get out and run errands or just go for a drive. I love clear, cold, crisp days.

Living in east Texas has its rewards. They don't use salt because snow is few and far between. I drive mine daily unless rain is forecasted. My commute to work is 100 miles round trip and drive my Spider every chance I get. I bought it to drive and that's what I do. I need to work on the heat because this year it's acting strange.

It is my first winter to come, but I plan to drive Prunette, as soon as I have put the whole wiring harness back in, and as it works. Cross my fingers.
No salt on the road, only in the constant sea breeze.

Glad to see a lot of people driving Spiders year round. And in some ways it's more comfortable to drive in the cooler weather. Summer in Charlotte is not much hotter than NYC summers, just longer. But the sun is so much stronger down here, so I actually prefer driving in the evenings during the summer. No AC.

Spring and Fall are ideal here.

having lived In PA, NJ, NY and owning a spider at that time I can tell you I hated putting her away for several months at a time. Now in San Antonio and can wear shorts while driving all year round. The other side of that coin is you must make sure you have a 100% properly functioning cooling system when you are out for a spin and it is over 100 degrees. :)
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Here in North Idaho (100 south of Canada) she's been in the garage for over a month now, started to rain everyday & cold & now a week of SNOW (early) means she in hibernation for now.

Hopefully we will get a few sunny days this winter where the roads are clear so I can take her out for a putt, but otherwise she's under the cover till spring.

Last spring I got her back out on the road on March 9th, winter has definitely started early this year (snow way before thanksgiving) so hopefully it will also end early again like last years!

Hoping that it's clear & the roads are good for Thanksgiving so I can be that "crazy uncle" that shows up to dinner in a convertable with the top down in the middle of winter!
