Bit the bullet and parked her for the season.



Here is my current list:

Replace Upper & Lower control arms
Recondition all brake calipers
Replace all rubber brake hoses
Replace Front Sway Bar bushings
Replace Fuel Pump/Filter
Clean & paint coil springs

As always I will keep the progress posted with photos along the way. Feel free to make/add any suggestions

Anybody know the best way to take out the old bushings?

You didn't waste any time! My '82 is going into my office/warehouse/shop space tomorrow for the slumber. I usually procrastinate until March to start on the winter projects though

My winter to do list:
-Figure out the on going cold start probs (new cold start injector, gets signal, but doesn't spray...)
-Investigate the low left front corner (maybe add another spring seat to raise it up?)
-Check out guibo and driveshaft.
-Do electrical connection for oil pressure gauge.
-Pull dash panels and center console. Veneer panels, refinish console.
-Re-cover seats (cash depending)
-New vinyl top (it's always down) and refinish armature.
-Preemptive fuel pump replacement.

Not too hard.

Good list, now what are you going to do the next weekend

Have heat in the garage? I was changing out the brake booster and nearly done but my garage is not heated so I'm looking a bit like Nanook from the North while wrenching.
Check the steering tie rods while it is all apart as well, good time to replace and not too expensive if they are suspect. Then there is a good reason for an alignment and next season will be sooo much fun with the cars new suspension and steering bits and pieces .I went to a 1" front bar and love the change.
Ok ok not my $$$ to spend sorry

New question How do I get the new bushings in?

Grease + a vice ?

sounds odd as the rubber is going to expand when starting to press, but if you succeed to guide it at the beginning, should'nt the bushing gently get in, as always ?

1) did not have a drill bit big enough
2) did not want to damage or weaken the holes
3) used the tools I had on hand
4) SUCCESS

can you tell how the assembled bushings slip on the bar, once compressed ?
do they go easily with grease ?
I was wondering if the bushings and stands were not assembled after being mounted on the bar and on the car, at the factory.
the rivets could have been smashed by the torque when tightening the mounting bolts.

@ westy64 I have not tried yet (cleaning/painting the sway bar) however, in retrospect I should have put the bushings on the bar then add the mounts
hopefully with enough grease/lube they should go on without any issues

@PininF I have heard of people using storage places. Where are you located? Where do you park/store your car?
