PSI for fuel pump 1976 fiat 124 spider

Anybody know what the psi reading should be on the fuel pump for a 1976 124 spider? It has a regulator between the gas tank and the fuel pump. I don't get a reading /nothing but the car will start but not run. If I keep hitting the accelerator it will stay running barely.
I am going to get the carb rebuilt so I will know if part of the problem is the accelerator pump in the carb. Yesterday I was going to check the regulator and by passed it straight from the tank to fuel pump then to carb. Car would not even start. It is backfiring through the carburetor some but I think that is bcause the timing is advanced so far it fires before the intake closes all the way. First things first, PSI on the fuel pump. I am guessing 3-4 # but that is just a guess. If the regulator is working properly that should take care of it . Looked in my manual but could not find any thing concerning the PSI .
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for your response. Looks like I will be installing a new fuel pump. I did a test and did not get response remotely close to 3psi. This is a great web site. I need to learn to use the archives (old posts) before asking questions. This time I thought of it after the fact. Thanks again.

backfires out the carb usually indicate a lean condition, and it sounds like your carb has little/no fuel in it

O.K. That goes along with the test indicating the fuel pump is not supplying the carb with enough gas. Your help is appreciated.
