I.ve finished the starter and new brake booster and all seems to perform just fine. Today, Candy drove the car for just a couple of miles and the brakes just seem to lock up and won't release. I'm suspecting the compensator control system but have no true idea of the culprit. It seems to bleed pressure off after sitting for a few minutes then about 100 yds. later the brakes lock up again. Help!!! The car is currently stuck on the highway and I need to figure how to get it to move. Can I temporarily disable the rear brakes to get it home?

can you tell if it's all 4 or just one end? Try feeling the wheels for extreme heat. If it's all 4, loosen the master cyl mounting bolts a couple of turns

A clamp on the hose from the bias valve to the rear axle housing will isolate the rear brakes, but if the rear is already locked they'll remain so.

Most likely the pushrod between the booster and MC is too long. Slide the MC forward, remove pushrod, shoren it by half a turn, then drive the car again to see if it happens again.
Take a 13mm wrench with you so you can loosen the MC in case it happens again. Shorten it little by little until the brakes do not lock up. I'd say if they have not locked up in 6-7 miles then they are fine.

If the flex lines are old, they could be delaminating internally causing this problem. If both rears are locked, look at the flex line from the compensator.

This happened to me , as Vandor mentioned back off the push rod in the booster and it should solve the problem.

I've gone to IAP's tech bulletin for setting up the MC after replacing it.
As Vandor has mentioned, the acorn nut has to be just right or the MC piston is either being engaged before brake is pushed or partial when brake pedal is pushed, or not at all ,which is not very good

It seems that adding some sort of adjustment mounting bracket would have been a better idea than that freaking acorn nut. I took me about 10 times to get that thing right. So maybe a competent person can get it done in one ore two attempts. Good luck.

Yes, just use a 1966-68 center brake hose in place of the regulator, or the hose that Allisons Auto sells for just that.steve8462 wrote:is there am easy way to eliminate the compensator control system ?
If you are brave you can reroute the hard line from the compensator to the center brake hose.
