Flat hood Spiders seem to be everywhere!
Flat hood Spiders seem to be everywhere!
What's up with the sudden number of early Spiders for sale. There are at least 6 flat hood Spiders that are either for sale, or have been sold recently within 250 miles of me. I looked at a local '71 before buying my '68. Now, I find multiple 72's, a '69 and as many as 3 '68s for sale. If anyone wanted an early Spider, there seem to be plenty to pick from right now.

My thoughts excactly!htchevyii wrote:Better stock up while you can
Reminds me a little of the Alfa 105 series during the 90's.
You could pick one up needing minor work for a few hundred dollars or a respectable road goer for a couple thousand, now look at them go!

Here's another one that needs someone to save it: http://shreveport.craigslist.org/cto/3388267504.html. It looks to be mostly rust free and was once someone's baby. I wonder what carb is under that air cleaner and what other mods that car might have. I wish I were within a reasonable distance, as I'd gladly give him his $1 to haul it off with title.

a suspect this is a rare glitch in the cosmos. When i first got interested in sports cars around 1970, TR-3s were a dime a dozen. Then it seemed like over night they just disappeared. if interested, you better grab while the grabbin' is good.

I have sent them an email. It's just 60 miles east of me. (Give or take a few).
Well, the ol boy wants 450.00 for it or its going to the crusher. The floor pans are gone and its been rained in for a few years. No wood grain in interior it's all been covered in vinyl. Some surface rust. Don't know if its worth the trip.

I'd love to see this car go to an enthusiast. If not for restoration, but at least to pull any decent parts before it goes to the crusher. Let us know what you find if you do end up looking at it.dmwhiteoak wrote:I have sent them an email. It's just 60 miles east of me. (Give or take a few).

He said he could get 350 crushed and someone wants the motor for 100.00. He owns a wrecker yard and picked this up off the side of the road a few years ago. He crushes cars on a regular basis but there was just something about this one he didn't want to crush it. You see, it ain't just us. He's gonna give it a couple months on Craigslist and see what happens.

Re: Flat hood Spiders seem to be everywhere!
Hi again, after reflecting I thought if ever I was to do it again this is where i would start with a cheap body
as long as the chassis was good
I would start all over with a complete bare metal frame and work from the ground up
This would not only be time consuming and cost $$$ but in the end would result in a work of art that you would probably keep for life
The beauty of these cars is that there not complicated and if at all you are tech savvy there is a lot you can do yourself
Nothing compares to building your own special hobby project wife permitting
Trust me Ive made a lot of promises to get my car and Im in love with her.
Cheers.

Re: Flat hood Spiders seem to be everywhere!
There's a 69 for sale in the Phoenix area complete with hard top for $1800. The few pictures make it appear to be pretty solid, but it apparently needs a starter, which always makes you wonder why they just don't put one in so it runs.
Sorry no link, I'm not at home and using an iPad. No clue how to link with this, but it's listed on the Phoenix craigslist. It's been listed for at least a month now so the guy may be willing to dicker with the price. The wife caught me looking at it last week and said "you're not thinking about buying another one are you?".
