Nice car! Welcome Tom.

I used to own a cherry red '74 I really enjoyed. It took 30 years to get back into another Spider that I'm very happy with. This site has been great. You should also check out mirafiori.com, and look for Brad Artique's wiring diagrams as well as his other material. They're a must have.

Good luck with the starting issue. It'll get resolved.

Don't think 10.5v at the coil is going to cut it - sounds to be like an issue I had where there was a voltage drop across the ignition switch. You don't happen to have the E-brake on when you are trying to start do you? If so, try blocking the wheels instead and drop the brake. Also, the batt should be charged closer to 13v, like 12.8 or so - might have to jump or charge it.

Tom,
The wiring diagram is on it's way. Looks like our Spiders may be siblings. Mine was originally "baby blue" too. My dad had it resprayed white in 75 or 76 - I think he thought the color wasn't "masculine" enough :D.

I did have the E-brake on. Let me drop it and see if it makes a difference.

Battery is at 12.5v.

I cleaned the coil connections and am now at 11.8v.

Thanks for the help!

Thank you very much for the diagram, let me know printing/mailing costs and I'll gladly cover those.

The color is growing on me, although I do feel strongly compelled to visibly wear a big-a$$ divers watch when I sit in her to offset the color. Ha!

Just tried w/ E-brake off and with a helper battery. No dice.

I'm going to swap the coil and see where that gets me. I did disconnect both condensors last night (I didn't ground them however which may have been dumb), disconnecting them didn't help.

OK - have 11.8v at the + side of the coil. Ran an extra ground just to make sure that isn't the problem. No dice.

Holy cow - forced myself to check the simple stuff again and turns out the rotor isn't spinning. Pretty sure that is bad.

Yes, I would agree with you. Is the dizzy installed properly? Damaged? Or do you think it's engine related?

Thanks. Belt is OK, found something a bit scary.

Look at what I found in the recess where the distributor dog meshes with the drive;
