I filled my fuel tank

Post by Danno »

I think I did that once before with the Friat, but it's been several years and my memory isn't that sharp.

Just a much more pleasant experience than filling up the Ram. It took 7.932 gallons and cost me a whopping $26.17!

like last time, no problems here, just simply noting that I'm glad to be driving her around again.

P.S. My low fuel light had not come on yet, should it have? I looked in my manual for tank capacity (i know I could probably just search) but seems like I remember it being an 11 or 12 gallon tank. I was way closer to the E than to the 1/4 mark according to my gauge, but if it's a 12 gallon tank and I had 4 gallons in there, that's more than 1/4... If it's an 11 gallon tank and I had 3 in there, then it's still more than 1/4...

Anybody with some insight?

Fuel capacity:
45 liter / 11.9 U.S. gal / 9.9 imp. gal

this should help http://www.automobile-catalog.com/make/ ... /1980.html

My manual says 11.4 US gallons, but it says it right after the Fuel injection information, so it's just plain confusing. Then when you look in the index, it says "Fill up Data" is found on page 53, but page 53 is the first page of the fuel injection data. My guess is that they did a reprint in 80 of the EXACT 79 owners manual, but then just smacked the Fuel injection information right into the manual without really paying attention to the index which doesn't seem to reference a single page between 54-69... I know that's all confusing to you all, but if you had the manual I'm looking at it would make more sense.

BTW, if anybody has a 1980 and they need information from the Owners Manual, let me know, I have archived it in digital form for my reference. Mine (as noted above) has the FI information, too.

I did do a search on Mira and found at least one reference that said the light comes on somewhere in the vicinity of 8 gallons used, so maybe I was almost there...

My low fuel light comes on with about 4 gallons left in the tank, ~100 miles. Fine with me!

AH HA!

Straight from the owners manual on the page that has the instrument cluster diagram:
Fuel Reserve Indicator (Red) - Warning that the fuel supply available in the tank is between 5 and 7.5 liters (1 1/3 to 2 Gals).

Glad to know  I was so paranoid with Fiona that whenever the red light would go on I would go fill her up. Over the short time I have come to realize it is good to test/know the limits of her

just remember for the FI owners, running the tank dry will burn out the fuel pump....mine is around 45L and only wish $26 would fill up my car...I do use 98 octane which in oz seem to hover around the $1.50+/L don't know the equivalent in gallon but it is considerably more, I can only imagine what they pay in Europe..

It would be about $5.67 per US gallon.

3.78 l = 1 US gallon.

We are paying about $3.85 (US$) here, but it varies a little bit.

Ive been using ethanol free only. 92octane but a bit more expensive than hi octane from the normal gas stations.
