Fuel pressure regulator?
sorry dont know enough to tell which one is failing.... but the fuel pressure gauge is telling the tale of a fuel delivery issue... my failing pump did the same thing....ran great until about 15 minutes in.... chased all kinds of guesses.... it was the pump.... just because it is new does not mean it is not the problem..... is it a bosch pump?..some of the others "that will work" are not as good.. you could (just for testing) put a clear filter in before the pump and see if it gets dirty... that would rule out crap in the tank.... but dont leave it in... fuel pumps are good at pumping not sucking ..if you know what i mean.... and a dirty tank will fowl a new pump pretty quick

Yep...thinking this one is easy. Either pump or regulator. I am going to put a hose clamp on the regulator output and completely close that line and take the car out. With that line closed the pressure should be high. If not, the pump is suspect. I put the cheapy version in, not the bosch (damn things are spendy).

Drive it North..then you can help me fix mine! Good luck with it.It does seem pretty straighforward on yours, since you have replaced so much already. That is frustrating to think a new part can fail,but....

So...when I started the car and pinched off the return line the pressure shot up. Guess that rules out the regulator? Right?

So...I know the lines are clean....guess its down to the fuel pump or filter...the filter is new, so if thats it, the tank is sending crap down the lines.

Question....WHY does it only happen after driving for a bit? I can stomp the pedal to the floor when the car is "cold" without any problems?

If your not going to post something intelligent, please try and refrain. I am trying to learn and some need not reply to my posts. I realize I am not as smart as some of you smart people, but give it a rest....I did manage to rebuild an entire car for the first time by myself. A little curtesy would go along way with less sarcasm.

after 30 min when the car is acting up, what happens when you pinch off the return line?

the pressure will rise if you pinch off the return line. The pressure drop after running might be a symptom of a plugged fuel filter. I'd remove it and try blowing through it. Could also be an issue with the sock on the fuel pickup in the tank

dont know why it does it WHEN it does it.... mine did the same thing... seamed like 2 different cars.... majic was just saying as marc did that pinching the line and fuel pressure going up does not rule out the regulator being bad.... good point from mark about maybe the filter.... assumption on my part that it was changed with the new pump and lines... wouldn't that be great if it turns out to be the filter.... again sorry that i can not help more about the regulator..... it can be frustrating i know.... hang in there.....

as I recall the filter was new, but they can get plugged quickly from debris. It's an easy test to remove and blow through it. Should be little or no resistance

Thanks guys....I will do all these things.

Matt...what type of pump did you install? Was it a Bosch pump that crapped out? I dont mind buying a new pump, filter and regulator...BUT....still confused why only happens after a bit. Like you stated...its like 2 different cars.

BEEK....good question....dont know about pinching after problem starts.

Mark....will check the filter...will save the sock idea for last.

it was an on sale closeout pump .... couldnt pass up the price.... lesson learned.... might have worked forever if i had checked the tank.... cleaned the tank... bit the bullet ... bought the correct pump.... back to 1 car again... as far as wondering why it did it when it did ?????? just like an affair with an italian with a fiery attitude.... i did not question why she is the way she is... .i am just happy that she is happy... soooo much easier that way

Thanks Matt.

Going to remove the filter tonight and look at it. Of course the filter is after the pump, so if its toast, the pump has probably had it also :(
