Re: Narfire, are you rocking?
Nope, earthquake?? I'm actually about 250 kms as the crow flies, inland from the coast.
Bruce (Courtenay) and Launie (LaunieG) live on the Island and might have felt it.
I don't believe they would be worried though as if "Murphys-Law" is believed....everything east of the San Andreas Fault/Juan De Fuca Fault will slide into the Atlantic Ocean
As if the east coast does not have enough to worry about over the next week.
I'll check the news stories.
Ok just checked. 7.7 magnatude off the Queen Charlottes. It was felt in Vancouver and places east, but not here in the okanagan. Few larger than normal waves but no big ones. Sounds like the tusnami alarms/sirens worked and people headed for higher ground. Nothing much to watch on the telly on Sat night anyway.

I live midway up Vancouver Island and felt nothing. There was a tsunami advisory overnight but nothing happened. I understand from news reports that some areas of Hawaii were evacuated and there were some waves but no real damage.

Re: Narfire, are you rocking?
It was relatively close - the epicenter was about 450 miles north of Courtenay. However, as I understand it, the force of the quake was directed westward rather than south - which is why there was more of a concern about tsunami waves in Hawaii than here on Vancouver Island. The Hawaiian Islands are the first land mass west of our coastline. Despite the magnitude of the aftershocks, we still haven't felt anything here.
