non-stock 40 idf linkage

Post by carlosamador »

Hello
i have a 78 124, used to be 1800, on the process of being bored for compression pistons. i have recently got my hands on a waffle manifold and some 40 idfs. the problem is the that i cant seem to find a linkage for these. i have tried to find the original linkage, but it wont work. since the original carbs open to the left(towards the tire), my new idfs opern to the right(towards the engine)

any suggestions??? i have seen people use motorcycly accel. cables on these, but not quite sure

thanks

That is correct motorcycle cables seem to be the trick but to take the guessing out of it pierce manifolds sells a kit for
dual carbs for 124s contact them http://www.piercemanifolds.com/ they will have the right cable but you may need
the connecting links as well to work with there setup .

This link may also be of some help:
http://antigua.globat.com/~kendickson.c ... index.html

The important thing is to get the linkage routed between the two carbs and have it pull toward the engine. Some have a cable wrapped around the first carb and routed to the middle and some have it coming from the acc pedal following between the engine and back carb. My 72 is fitted with rods and heim joints:

No, it's still gold but the flash from the camera gives it a yellow glow.

Here is a link to 9 pictures in photobucket that show the linkage I'm using, as adapted to the early model pedal assembly:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v26/v ... h%20cable/

You can use a similar arrangement with later models that have a cable coming out of the firewall for the throttle, by anchoring the output end of the cable similar to the cable in the pictures in the link above.

Or, you could simplify it more by eliminating the mechanical linkage below the waffle manifold, so that the cable pulls directly on the carb linkage from an anchor point up near the intake valve cover, as per this link from Ken Dickson's web site: http://antigua.globat.com/~kendickson.c ... index.html (same link that Denise gave, below).

You've done a fantastic job on your Fiat! Is it a 74 model? I didn't see pics of an IDF linkage though. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong pics.
