Downpipe material

Quick question -

What material is the 4-2-1 downpipe made from? Is it cast iron?

Thanks!

You might want to post a photo, since it sounds like you may have an after-market exhaust. The stock exhaust manifold is cast iron. The stock down pipe that connects to it is heavy steel tubing.

Its not aftermarket....I just would not be able to tell heavy steel from cast iron

Thanks!!!

I believe this is yours...I pulled it from your build thread.

That's an exhaust manifold (4-2 section) and it is cast iron, the 2-1 section was originally made from steel.

My fault....I did not state my question carefully.

The manifold I realize is cast iron (4-2). What I was calling the downpipe is the 2-1 section. That was the material I was curious about.....guess it is steel. I wanted to get a new collector welded and its a big deal to weld cast iron. Sounds like it will be easy to replaced the stock collector with one that ends in 2 1/4 inch pipe.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion!
