Quick question -
What material is the 4-2-1 downpipe made from? Is it cast iron?
Thanks!

Re: Downpipe material
You might want to post a photo, since it sounds like you may have an after-market exhaust. The stock exhaust manifold is cast iron. The stock down pipe that connects to it is heavy steel tubing.Divers wrote:Quick question -

Re: Downpipe material
I believe this is yours...I pulled it from your build thread.

That's an exhaust manifold (4-2 section) and it is cast iron, the 2-1 section was originally made from steel.

Re: Downpipe material
My fault....I did not state my question carefully.
The manifold I realize is cast iron (4-2). What I was calling the downpipe is the 2-1 section. That was the material I was curious about.....guess it is steel. I wanted to get a new collector welded and its a big deal to weld cast iron. Sounds like it will be easy to replaced the stock collector with one that ends in 2 1/4 inch pipe.
Thanks and sorry for the confusion!
