One more question about ride height: I guess these progressive springs would lower the higher, later cars (like my '84) more than an older one, since the newer cars seem to have been raised to meet headlight height requirements (?)

Yes, they would lower the later cars more. The rear ride height was raised because of bumper height standards. The front springs are the same early to late, the rears are much taller on the later cars, even tho they have the same number of turns.
