Need to get out more often
Need to get out more often
Last night was the second tuesday of the month and that means that the guys from the Flu here in Houston, TX are going to meet at the park, BS a bit and then head to Jax's for a burger. It's been so long since I have gone so, I decided to pull the Fiat out of the garage and take her for a spin down town to see what everyone has been up to. The line up consisted of the usual gear heads, which is great, and the weather was very, very agreeable. And dispite be shaken out of a 2 month auto slumber, the Fiat was purring like a kitten. The drive home was great and I realized that I am really cheating myself out of this simple pleasure every month by not attending the meetings with the guys. Heck, I'm really missing out by not driving the Fiat more often. Don't really know why I'm telling you all this. Just felt like sharring. Thanks!

Although I have only been a Fiat owner for a little over a year, I can't seem to stay out of mine. I just enjoy driving it. Maybe after a few years comfort may take precedence over enjoyment. Not that the Spider is uncomfortable but all my others ride a lot smoother. After a little more work maybe mine will be presentable enough to mingle with other Fiats.

Re: Need to get out more often
I know what you mean. We usually only take ours out when it is nice and no chance of rain. I want it to last as long as possible without rusting. My wife doesn't like to ride when it's cold so as soon as the temp drops below 70 she is done. I will still take it to the store though. We usually get balmy 60 degree clear dry weather in December and I will go for a drive. That's why I never put it away for the winter. Sometimes I wish the car wasn't as nice as it is so I wouldn't worry about damage, rain or vandals, but then I go somewhere and someone will tell me how awsome my car is. If I had the money I would build a Rat Rod version of a spider. Totally built motor, great suspension, all good mechanicals but with flat black paint, old interior and a little rust would be okay.

Thanks for sharing Katsi.
I enjoy hearing about the simple pleasures of owning a car that gives so much enjoyment. Locally, our weather is just coming into Spring. Although it's raining today, this Sunday has good weather predicted. We will take the Spider to an annual hillclimb event at Mount Tarrengower. Just as specatators - not competing!
Should be a great day.

Zippy, it's simple, buy another Spider. For one that you don't have to worry about, you shouldn't have to pay all that much.
As for not wanting to be with the group in a beater, forget it. Except for the guys with lots of money, most of us start out with a beater and gradually bring it up to snuff. I, for one, would enjoy seeing a guy show up at gatherings and showing what he's done since last time. I love watching one come together.

Who said anything about being up to snuff? My car is no way as nice as most of the other guy's cars. Yet, it's mine and I know where all the tape and bailing wire is locatedFiatBen wrote:most of us start out with a beater and gradually bring it up to snuff.
Your welcome. Enjoy the hill climb.Martin124 wrote:Thanks for sharing Katsi.

I'm in contention to win the award for most rusted out and disrepaired Spider that still drives! If I'm not ashamed to be seen in mine, I can't imagine anyone being embarassed by theirs!! (And I've got pictures to prove it!!)
