Got a new one from Vicks auto, fit the 79
I am wondering why there a space for that cross member, just one that goes on the driver side, came with it

Is this what you're referencing?

The Spiders with EFI had the frame notched on the passenger side and a plate welded on the cross member to fill in the gap. It makes no sense at all why Fiat would have done this, but here's what it looks like comparing a 79 (the nasty looking one) to an 80+ EFI cross member (a refurbished one from Vick's). For my 79, I had to grind off the welds and remove the plate on the refurbished one so it would fit between the frame rails.

The cross member on the 79 should fit tightly without the plate. You'll know really quickly if it needs it or not once you go to install it....there should be no play between the frame rails and the cross member.
