Ford Ranger Help needed

Post by mbouse »

anyone ?

'99 Ranger horn decided to stop working. can find no fuse listed for the cirucuit. the horn itself works when powered directly from the battery.

when i push the switch at the steering wheel, i hear nothing; not even a relay clicking. is there a relay? if so, where is it? how to test the relay?

thanks....

according to ALLDATA, the horn relay is in the main fuse/relay box.
Here's a link that may work;

found that ADDITIONAL fuse box under the hood. then found the relay and horn fuse. turns out the relay does click. the hood must be up, and this fuse box must be open, and you must be standing outside the truck when you push the horn button in order to hear it.

the good news is the relay does click, so i believe from the steering wheel to the relay is OK. now to jumper the wire between the relay and the horn.

anyone know how to open a Ranger "DISTRIBUTION BOX" ??

Hey Mike, I think you could use the same technique on the D-box as you use taking off the shifter extension. Raise the hood, plant a foot on top of each wheel well, bend over and grasp the top of the D-box. . . . . .
