Rear 124 Sport and 1600 badge retaining clips?

My car was debadged and had the holes filled with bondo by a PO and the badges and clips are long gone. I've sourced the badges but what clips do I need for these badges? I've noticed it's almost impossible to get anything back there from the inside, do I have to take out a tail light or do the clips that are supposed to be used insert from the outside and then the badges press in, or do the badges go in with the clip from inside?

Mine had small white inserts that centers the badge in the holes that are bigger than the locator pins
