Floor pan insulation material; heat, sound; ideas?

Am restoring my 79 2000. I have the interior down to the floor pan; everything is out. It seems there is a fair amount of the original insulation missing. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement or source for this material? I've been reading up on some of the options out there; Eastwood restoration in PA is selling a product that apparently melts so I'm staying away from that, and there are various others such as Dynamat or Dynahush. I also found this site: http://www.lobucrod.com/ for EZ Cool insulation. Has anyone had any experience with this topic? I"m concerned primarily with heat, but some noise reduction would be good, too. It seems to be good info and good product. I'm considering the same project in my '69 once she's up and running again. And the '78 definitely needs the factory insulation/tar replaced when I rebuild it's motor and replace the heater core.

+1 From Experience...Dynomat or equivilant product and some decent underlayment below carpet. Duplicates stock, only reversed in order and more effective due to modern materials.

This thread has been quite helpful; just finishing the last fo the removal chores before por and paint.

I removed the passenger side tar/insulation blanket on my 71,and found a white styrofoam piece which seems to fit exactly into the firewall bulge on that side. Is this stock, and if I plan on using one of the current, modern insulation sheets, should I leave it in?

I left mine in ( i believe this came with the car, no expert )

Mine came with the styrofoam thing also...I took it out and trashed it when I installed modern insulation material.

my car had one as well. I put it back in. That spot is easily the most susceptible to heat intrusion into the cabin, because of the proximity of the header. I don't know if that is why it's there, but that's why mine went back in.

come to think of it mine had slight burn/melt marks on it so if you are not going to put it back you may want to look at some sort of replacement for it

Sounds like the styrofoam thing stays, then.....thanks! I also noted a little blackening on mine, and also noted it's proximity to the exhaust header. Since spouse o' mine will have her feet there a LOT once it's back on the road, more insulation/thermal barrier the better, I suspect!
