A ARM BOLTS

GOT 79
A ARM> how do u replace the bolts that hold it on, there 2 bolts that hold it on to the frame. one is stripped and turning,what do i do to replace that
next i notice the bolts are loose on the cross member, and it hanging down , where are the top of the bolts go, the bo;ts turn and i can't see where the tops are/ look like inside the frame. ARE THEY

It does but not. I am looking to see where the bolts go thru, I need to hold the top and tight the nut, the whole thing turns,,that the cross member bolts. On the control arm,one is bent and threads are stripped and it also turns, how do I remove that one . Thanks

not totally sure what you are asking. The lower A-arm is held on with 2 studs that are captured in pockets on the cross-member. these are spot welded to the crossmember. To replace them requires some fab work to the cross member. Mine are worn much like yours and the PO double nutted the studs to get past the stripped threads. The vertical studs that hold the cross member to the unibody frame are captured in the frame tube. If these are spinning, then you need to pull the cross member to fix them stock. the other way is to drill them out and run a long bolt from the top thru the entire square tube. this tube is light gage metal and the upper part would require reinforcement to keep the thru bolt from collapsing the tube. I piece of 1/8" flat plate should do the job.

Best to remove the cross member. Rebuild , repair it and reinstall. Or find a replacement. Either way the replacement should be strengthened before installing. There is a thread somewhere that covers this. Luckily I havent had to deal with this issue yet. But i do i a cross member on the shelf just in case.

Sounds like you have two issues. One is the bolts in the cross member that the lower A-arm bolts to, and the other is the bolting of the cross member to the front frame rails. Repairs will require welding and fabrication skills.

Here is a link to a post that contains information from azygoustoyou (Brady) on the repair of the frame rail to cross member connection.

I am sure there is other information out there on these two repairs as it is a somewhat common problem on these cars.
