Retiring - Need a car driven from West Coast to East Coast?

Post by supplyguy »

Turned in my retirement papers today. Will need to start a second career but before I do must knock out a few bucket list items. One is to take the train across country from Washington DC to either Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, or Los Angeles and reflect on my 33 years in the government along the way and prepare for what's ahead. Problem is I gotta get back. One way rental car is $800. Flying is boring. Anyone need a car brought back? I'll even cover the gas and lodging!

Chuck,
Our daughter doesn't need the car after all, so we won't be available for this offer. Thanks, just the same.

Wishing you a great trip. Drop in to visit if you end up near Ventura, CA.

i think you need to do the "route 66" trip just to freshen your memory about how great this country once was before the politically correct A**wipes started sanitizing and watering down our core values. people came to this country to escape religious persecution. now we are bowing down to other religions so we don't offend them! i don't see "in Allah we trust" printed on the money in my pocket! i respect every religion but that doesn't mean i have to compromise my own beliefs as to not offend everybody else's! we need to take control of our country back so there will be something worth giving to our children other than all these well restored spiders we keep so well hidden in our garages.

 holy crap! where did that come from? i didn't mean to get on my soapbox, but it seems to pick my scab when i think of a beautiful trip across the greatest country in the free world!

It's ok, you share the voice of millions of Americans who are distressed and disgusted at what has become of our country. The entitlement state mentality is a :( disaster.

i'm just so sick of clearly seeing what needs to be done but there is no longer a platform to get your voice heard. you would think the internet would provide that but it also has become so huge and diluted that you get lost. i don't like Facebook because it just seems like a narcissistic outlet for people who struggle with face to face encounters.

and don't get me started on healthcare!

You know, as cheap as Fiats sell in CA, you could find a decent one, buy it, drive it back, sell it for more than you had in it and make money off this trip.

Or, get somebody to buy a car from Shawn Folkerts (I hear he has one or two) and drive that to the buyer on west coast and then train back. Same plan, but in reverse?

In any event, hope the trip works out for you. Driving across country is something all of us should do at some point in our lives. I think the trip goes a lot easier (on your back) when your 18 or 19. We do live in a great country and I can attest to the Route 66 trek being very cool. Take your time and take in as much as you can. The national parks are magnificant, you could spend several days in Colorado alone. One thing for sure, you will appreciate the journey of the pioneers that risked everything to secure a better life and freedon. These iron willed people, our ancestors in many cases, understood that a better life could be made for them in this country. I'm sure you will appreciate how great the US is during this trip much more than an 18 or 19 year old worried about the next beer stop.

God Bless America and enjoy your trip.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

I am always surprised at myself for feeling like I need to travel to "the exotics" to see something new and inspiring, when each time I road-trip in the USA (or our neighbor to the North) I'm blown-away at what there is to see and experience.

Even in my own STATE! I read a story awhile ago about a family who decided years ago to get a list of every municipality in Utah and visit them all. Their blog was full of some of the most diverse landscape views and the experiences they had along the way... all without having to learn another language! :D (well... some would say that Southern Utah has it's own language  )

So I'm just sayin' that I'm jealous. Good for you for gettin' 'er dun. Enjoy every last second of it. Wish I had a car I needed from SoCal..... (wait.... maybe I do.... let me look at financing.... )

I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
