I'm under 40! By a few lousy months.dom wrote:I am in the toronto canada area. I spoke to a guy who has been parting spiders for a long time. He said 10 yrs ago parts sold, there was a demand but not anymore. I see people listing parts, they strip a car and ask 300 a hood etc., then 200 then next fall or spring 125. For every one restoration there seems to be 5 cars being parted out. Iguess it depends on the area. I could not sell a good door or hood for $50 locally. Kids these days don't know how to turn a screw driver if they grew up in a big city. How many people on this forum are under 40?
I see plenty of "kids" fooling with cars, but the biggest issue with large parts is moving them around. A hood isn't going to sell to someone out of town unless you have a really rare car, it is usually cheaper to have it pounded out and fixed than to buy and ship. Also the flat hood is much, much, much easier to repair than the hooters hoods.
Flat hoods - no demand. FIATs are flipped right now in that most of the activity in buying and restoration is with the fuel injected cars. I say "flipped" in that I think it is a natural stage for a car that is slowing being considered a classic, people start with the newest model and work backwards. Eventually people realize the most valuable ones were the purist ones, in our case AS and BS Spiders. Flat hood cars.
