Hello. What exactly would be the type of paint that was originally used on my 1983 Azzura?
I'm guessing it's enamel of some sort?
I'm trying to find out what it is so I can investigate to what extent it can be restored.
Thanks in advance.
Original Paint type?
Re: Original Paint type?
The method in this article won't fully help with the tarp rope abrasions - for that, you will want to try different pad and compound combinations to buff them out - but the info in this article will go a long way to help you restore and re-condition the overall original paint:

After you re-condition, then use the least abrasive means possible to buff out the abrasion marks. If that doesn't work, then go a bit stronger, either a harsher pad or a slightly more abrasive compound. Meguiars MF system is good, with its D300. Or with foam pads, you could try either Ultimate Compund by Meguiars, or their more aggressive compound, 105, and follow with the polishing compound of your choice. Test a small, inconspicuous area to see what you are getting into.
Pist pic's. My original paint metallic blue '84 is pretty far gone, and has enough surface rust showing through that a re-paint will be in order, but I do want to try to make what's there look as good as possible first, and gain more experience with paint restoration in the process.

Re: Original Paint type?
Thanks for the reply, it's very helpful. It will be my first attempt at paint resto.
This one is non metallic black. I will try and post some pics, but I can't say how soon as there are some rust spots that should be dealt with first.
Thanks again.
