sure you can do upgrades in steps. The only problem is that you may not see decent gains with each mod and if you take too long in between steps you may find degradation of the original mods by the time you get done. For instance, if you do the cyl head and it takes a year to get around to pistons your valve job may need some freshening again. And of course there is the problem of doing some of the same labor twice or three times

Although I cannot substansiate with any dyno-like documentation. Converting my car from FI to dual 40 IDF Webers, has been by far THE MOST ENJOYABLE modification that I've performed to her in over 15 yrs of ownership!
Couple that with 4-2-1 headers and Ansa exhaust-and you cannot wipe the smile off my face after some hard driving. Of course the downside, I might as well stock up on differntials to replace the current one that I'm sure is going to fail shortly!
