Side Marker Lights

Showing off my "newbie" ignorance here...

I have an 80 model spider, and hate the way the side marker lights look like an aftermarket after-thought.
In some of the pictures I have seen posted there are side marker light that are angled into the fender/rear quarter as opposed to the flat-on-panel ones that I have. Is there a certain year replacement to look for to get the angled in housing (seems like 1971 ones had what I am talking about, but not sure how long they were like that)? Would the different year housing fit into the existing rectangular holes?

I put the earlier style on my 80, bu the holes are not the same and there is a right left.

interesting; I have a 76 and I like the flush ones better. So I guess they do interchange?

those side lights were stock on the 70 only. I suspect they are hard to come by. I have a set that would require "rechroming".

Found what I was looking for. For some reason google failed me earlier when I searched, Midwest-Bayless has them. Interestingly they have the 1970 lights, never saw that version. Gets me thinking.

The marker lights used '71 to '78 are the recessed style. '79 to '85 are flush with the surface. Sadly, these are NOT interchangeable, as I discovered the hard way. The older style have a slightly bigger rectangular opening.

Yeah, I ended up buying all four corners from flea-bay. A little bit o' dremel action and all should be fine.

A= front
P = rear
S = left
D = right

I always felt that the first side marker lights, the tiny round ones that so many like, look like an after thought. They look like they belong on a bicycle.

Curly, are they not required for compliance for driving on Oz roads? Thought they were, agree cleaner looking without.

G'day Dean, at some stage side lights were made mandatory under the ADRs (and they weren't as bad as the huge US lens dimensions); but it must have been after 1976 because my car passed a very picky engineering and compliance inspection without them.
I did however, have to paint the stainless steel windscreen wipers matt black as well as the polished spokes of the steeing wheel because in 1976 they introduced the ADR about no reflective surfaces in the driver's field of vision.
The paint seemed to lift off very easily when the car was given a decent wash

Ok makes sense. Lucky for you. Not a big fan of the prickly engineers one has to deal with when gaining compliance for SA use. Purchased a near brand new 16 Sportswagon from VIC and went to Regency, ended me having to bring a mechanic back to spend 3 hours dismantling sections of the engine sot hey could clearly read the engine number..... Not impressed. Another friend registered a Brand new Prado transferring rego from NSW to SA, the factory tinting on the windows was not approved and had to take it to a retailer to get them removed. Luckily Toyota reimbursed them the money.....
