34500 British pounds sterling = 54875.7000 US dollars better buy it soon as the price is increasing

all kidding aside, the ads are very well written and the car looks great. Do not have enough knowledge on these yet to know if this should command the asking price

well, I think the real problem is that there have been so few of them available that it is difficult to guess what someone will pay for it.
But I would say it's clear that, yet again, with FIAT, "Rare" does not equate to "Valuable".

Imagine if a similarly rare and pedigreed MG or Triumph were for sale; $250k, easy. If it were a Jag or Maserati: $500k. and a Ferrari with that sort of rarity were to come up for sale, Christie's would start salivating as it would surely fetch well over $1m.

This car would never be worth the asking price to the uninitiated, or even the average FIAT Enthusiast. But to a real FIAT-isti; it seems a bargain.

Thanks, 4uall. I work in the Great Britain as a motoring writer, so I'm happy you made the above statement :o

In the UK, the Fiat Spider has been an underrated and underpriced classic car for many years - it never originally made it to these shores. From reading the history of the Spider in the US I think it's similarly underrated, although this seems to have been due more to the sub-standard infrastructure that FIAT put in place when originally selling these cars. However, as all of you know it provides a driving experience far superior to its FIAT image.

Over this side of the pond, in recent years prices have been increasing steadily to bring them in line with cars of a similar ilk. The Abarth though has always been sought after due to its rarity and specification, plus the added magic of the scorpion badge. In Europe, Spiders are highly regarded - particularly in Germany and the Netherlands - with Abarths in particular highly sought after.

All I can say is that I drive a huge number of classic cars per year as part of my work and there aren't many - of a similar price, and well beyond - that have given me the same pleasure. It's stunning to drive, and to look at. That's not a sales pitch by the way but simply commentary on nine years of satisfying ownership. I'll try and pop some video up at some point and post a link on here.

Btw, I owned a standard 79' Spider 2000 prior to this and loved it just as much.

Cheers,

Ross.

The price is well in line with the going rate in Switzerland for CSAs.

Very well presented Ross and so good of you to post your CSA and info up here on the forum!

It's priced well comparing with recent sales and I'd say it wont be long before someone snaps this up.
Maybe one of these folk. http://www.fiat124abarth.de/treffen.uk.htm

Great investment.

Thanks, Guys.

It's always tempting to ask for more and I was going to price it slightly higher but I am looking to sell, not to have it on the market for a considerable period of time, and think it's a reasonable price given condition.

I'll keep you posted.

Ross.

Perhaps I now know where to advertise my Spider for sale when the time comes!

There are rare body Fiats worth that here, but it is rare for any 124 body open car sell for half that in the States. I suppose if there is plenty of paperwork provenance with the Abarth build, that makes a huge difference, but here in the States, 124s generally are treated like the "Rodney Dangerfield" of classics.

Come to think of it, I believe the only time I EVER saw one on and automotive TV show was on "Top Gear" or "Wheeler Dealers," both out of the U.K.
