Wrong Year
I recently took possession of what I thought was a 1971 Spider. Well I was cleaning the car and noticed that on the break lens cover the date was 1969. So I stopped what I was doing and checked the registration, as I have not taken over legal ownership of the car yet, and to my amazement the registration states that the car is a 1970 Spider. Now this is really a surprise to me because when the PO told me it was a 1971 Spider I just believed him. I now know that I must check out things more carefully in the future. On a not related matter I have found out that through my cleaning and inspection that the car has been painted before and not a really good job either as it has started to chip and peal. There is some rust bubbling up on the rear quarter panels that I will address in the near future.

Re: Wrong Year
Check the manufacture date, which on the newer cars is in the driver's door jamb, gives month and year of manufacture.

Re: Wrong Year
It is possible it is registered as a 71.Fiat wasnt very good abouit model year changes. If they had some left from the year before, they just shipped it as a newer model.I have heard of several instances like yours.

Re: Wrong Year
One way to confirm that it's a 1970 model is to check the side markers. 1970 models had 2-piece side markers; not round, per earlier years, or 1-piece, per later years. 2-piece side markers were unique to 1970.

Re: Wrong Year
post a pic. Does it have a 1438 or a 1608. What does the grill look like? Here is a 70.

Re: Wrong Year
It is a 1970. It has the two piece side marker and the honey comb grill with the Fiat badge in the middle of the grill. The door plate states that it was manufactured 5/70, but the rear taillight lens has 1969. How can I get pictures uploaded to this site?

Re: Wrong Year
This is a procedure that I have been developing for a little while on how to post pictures here in the Forum. Hope it is useful, and comments are always welcome.
HOW TO POST PICTURES IN FIATSPIDER.COM
Well that picture-posting thing sure is confusing. Took me forever to figure it out. Here is what I do:
First, you must post your pictures on photobucket.com or one of the similar competing websites. You can't post pics directly from your computer. So set up a free account there first. The instructions here reference photobucket.com.
Then in your FS.com post, look for the "Img" box at the top of the post, #9 from the left in the row of command icons.
Put the cursor where you want the pic to appear in the post (leave a few spaces after text is a good idea) and click the "Img" button/icon above.
Then go to the photobucket.com site (or competitor) and find your pic. Hover the cursor over the pic and a drop down menu will appear. Then click the "Direct Link" or similar button. In Photobucket, it will respond with a "copied" indication.
Go back to your FS.com post and make sure the cursor is EXACTLY in between the 2 Img boxes: then right click and hit "paste" and the web link for the pic will show up in between the 2 img boxes. DON'T hit the IMG button a second time. MOVE your cursor out of the IMG info you just created before you hit enter.
Now when you post the post, the pic will be there!
Remember that if you delete the photobucket "master" pic, it will no longer appear in the posting here on FS.com
Also: there is a size limit to the pictures that can be displayed here, I think it is 750 pixels in width, someone correct me if I am wrong. So you may need to resize (typically downsize) the pics so that they fit properly and all of the pic is displayed and not cropped. What I do is really simple: I email the original picture to myself within AOL. AOL will automatically prompt you to see if you want the picture "optimized". Say "yes" and send this new pic to yourself. I then save it with a "small" addendum to the picture name and put this optimized picture up on photobucket. It works every single time like a charm.

Re: Wrong Year
Bobbo, I modded the yellow one. Then Im trying something different so the green one has a huge hole in it . So its not available. Sorry. It came off a green 70 that I took apart last year due to rust.

Re: Wrong Year
Thanks Spiderrey. looking got a hood that is the only body part that i need, as you can see in the photo if it comes up there is a dent at the edge and where the hinges are there is a wrinkle.
Yah it worked.

Re: Wrong Year
By the way, that hood on your car is repairable. Cheaper to fix it right then to find a mint one.

Re: Wrong Year
Your car is sweet!! Love that color and it looks quite clean. Funny thing in your photo is the direct tv dish which appears to be sticking out of the ground!
Congrats on the beautiful car. Id like to see a pic of the 1969 tail lights. Are they of the same variety as the 1968 cars? Those are the nicest ones IMHO.
