Cooling fan sensor-what temp?

Post by sierraspider »

Just put in a new cooling fan sensor on rad. It doesn't come on until around 220 which seems too hot to me. By then engine is getting hot and it doesn't bring temp down in stop and go driving, but will if I get out on open road and get some air flow to rad. What temp should the sensor turn on fan? It's a new aftermarket sensor (read cheap). I'm going to replace it with a new, different sensor. I've also put a manual switch for fan in cabin which works great as a backup but I obviously want the fan to cycle on it's own at proper temp.
Also my car has air conditioning which I don't plan to use, should I pull AC core or rad (whatever it's called) to improve air flow? One other thing, cabin is warm with heater off, is this unusual and what can be done?

Thanks

Dan

hey Dan some temp sensors come on at different temps however, yours seems high (usually 190F) when I fist got Fiona her cabin was hot as well. I went with some heat padding see here http://forum.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtop ... ol#p140435

Dan,

I am planning on adding AC to a 1979. Did you pull your A/C? I am specifically looking for the compressor mounting bracket

Thanks
