Idiot-proof diagram/picture of what is what in engine bay?

My second embarrassing question/request within 24 hours: I would sure like it if there were some simple set of picture or diagrams that simply label, in a generic way, what is what in the engine bay. Such as "water pump" with an arrow pointed at the water pump. This would be for the 1800 motor. Sort of like the diagrams you see that label the 200 buttons on a digital camera. You're no wiser, but you know what it's called. Better yet if it labelled the extra stuff for the California smog emission version of that motor.

Thank you. It sort of helps, but it did show me how to get the shop manual. I guess I need that regardless. This is the first car I have owned that I really want to try to understand.

The shop manual certainly helps, but you can also google image and get lucky with diyer photos. Being your first car, just treat the individual parts like a puzzle and start following hoses and wires around. Eventually it all comes together and you'll know all the systems and relationships. It's very simple and you could start by tracing all the water/cooling system parts, then fuel parts, then air, then spark. Those are the lifeblood systems.

I am in the same boat starting last Sept. I bought this manual to start with. I could always send you a photo from the book if you need something specific.

I tell you. I think this combo of advice makes me feel much better. And I am ordering the Shop Manual. Thank you.

Many of our under=hoods look very different from each other's. Mine, for instance, would have a label that said "Engine". and just about nothing else.
