Door play

Post by pda041376 »

How do you adjust the play in the door when it's closed? My driver door is fairly tight (less than an inch of play), but my passenger door seems way too loose to me (about 1/8 inch play when closed). Is the a way to adjust the striker? The plastic surround on the mechanism that hits the striker is cracked and definitely needs replaced, could that be all that needs to be done? Or are loose doors par for the course?

The catch on the car is adjustable. Back the two large phillips screws off and perhaps push the catch in a bit , tighten and try that. The latch on the door is pretty much fixed.
How's the alignment between the front of the door and the back of the fender? That is adjusted by the screws/bolts on the hinges.

Doors aligned fine, thanks for the info. Will tighten it up and go from there.

Lots of these cars are missing the black rubber door quides that should be there on the lower part of each door. This is another adjustment point which when adjusted correctly will help locate the door and keep it from rattling. If yours are missing they are available either in plastic, or rubber like the originals, from some vendors.

i had this problem a whille ago it is your old door seals have crushed and theres very little sealing going on
so they rattle without noise
get some new or used ones
i got some out of a 96 lumina and cut to fit
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Sweet, was wondering about that. I can see daylight since there are no seals around the door currently. :P
