What are your thoughts
I purchased a head from some one, I get the head and it all rough as hell on the top, supposedly from water , I never seen a picture of this before buying, this new polished head was going to go for my rebuild on my 1608, in which my gold valve cover and carbs would be on this engine, but in seen this head ,there no way I will except it ,just because it would clash with my other things and make my engine ugly,I did say that I'd get one done by him and that we can work it out, the more I thought about it,I decide to sent this head back to him and get my cash back, I don't have the return address on the box any more so I been asking him to send me a email and tell me his address, nothing as of now from him,, I will post a picture of the head in the mornings and u tell me what u think, or maybe tell me what can be done with it , I don't want to start shit over it, just possible return the head and get refunded, is that so bad! If I don't hear from him and get the address by Sunday nite, then u will know a pissy person on here I do hope u are reading this, I have left u a few emails already and I know. Read them
<< see how rough that is

Re: What are your thoughts
was the fellow from this forum?
My opinion, but really bad form to send crap without full disclosure here.
I have a 1608 head on the shelf as well, but the engine swallowed a nut (likely the air or carb retaining nut) and has some divots on the head. I can get an opinion from a fellow (very knowlagable) and see what he says about it. Perhaps a surfacing might be enough.

Re: What are your thoughts
The head has been all redone, polished etc, I just don't like the lumpy shit, and yes he from here, very well known he says all I want is his address and I will sent this back to him, if he does not want to refund me then that his doing, I dont want this part, plain and simple, I don't care if I was free, I have no use for it ,unless I can get it straightin out in which I doubt that can be done, narfire wrote:was the fellow from this forum?

Re: What are your thoughts
I wouldn't put that part on my car either. I would think that selling something like that should warrant a photo before purchase. I'm shocked your seller didn't feel the same.
there are times and builds where that aesthetic-only blemish could be serviceable. But a buyer should get to make that decision.
And the fact that all it took was a comment on the forum for the seller to change his mind and get back to you speaks VOLUMES.
It wasn't a guy named Steve from down-under, was it? 'cuz those look a LOT like the crappy pistons he sold me!

Re: What are your thoughts
No Steve. The seller said he was busy and did not get back to me, I really don't think he is a bad person, we will get it worked out, I would hope he understands where I am coming from,As for me getting a photo, I never thought of what could be wrong with the head, my mistake only, not his!- I recall the pistons u got from Stevemaytag wrote:I wouldn't put that part on my car either. That looks like a weld for sure. Certainly not an original casting finish.

nah, that looks like water.
I've removed some severely damaged parts from a parts car that look alot like that head, and were quite obviously damaged from electrolysis.
That head probably suffered from a leak at the temp sensor / sender that is located adjacent to the damaged area. And they probably never changed their coolant! (yes... I'm shocked again! )
Over time, this electrolysis will actually eat holes into the aluminum.
BTW: this is why you need to use the correct coolant / water mix in engines with alloy components!
But as to the photo: It is what they described.

Re: What are your thoughts
I defer to your experience in these matters! Why would it only be localized in this one area, to the cross support?

because of the (presumably) failed sensor, adjacent to that area.
