Rearview Mirror

Post by dmwhiteoak »

I am trying to return my rearview mirror back to being something other than just a fixture hanging on the windshield. I took it apart to clean and repair it and found these two little rubber things laying in the bottom.

Image

They look to me like some sort of stabilizer for the mirror body itself which is what I am trying to correct. The body is looses from the plastic piece the pivot is attached to. Does that make sence?

Image

Can any one that has had thiers apart tell me where they go using the above picture as a referance. Even a WFG would be appreciated.

That how they are, that rubber goes on the ends of the mirror, that how mine was! I have 2 mirrors that have the wire harness attach to the back of the mirror

i think they go between the mirror and the glass
as spacers.to keep them steady, and not vibrate

You can use a spring out of a $5.00 trailer tail light from most auto parts store to replace the spring in side the mirror

Tony, I have no spring in the mirror. It is loose on the adjustment pivot. It just seems like something should be there to hold it stable. If you flip the adjustment lever down the whole assembly is loose. Flip it up and it is fairly tight but still shakes. Jim, where do the rubber pieces go? Joe, Happy birthday and the glass and mirror are tight in the assembly, it's just the pivot point that I can't get stable.

I can't say that I blame you. I would keep it too. Haven't had time to work on mirror, what little spare time I have had has been on wheel bearings. Can't seem to get the noise gone.

I did it know that. I think I will go to the parking lot and retrieve it. I will work on it tonight, on my breaks of course.
Thanks for the tip y'all. :D
