Hey it's what keeps the site interesting, when I feel strongly about a subject I say some pretty non-pc things and then someone will check me which is cool, it's like a checks and balances system. If someone is really outside the boundary of decency mark gives them the ol' leathery boot :)

I must have missed something? I thought everyone who owned a Fiat was a smart ass?

now that were on the subject. I am old schooler and the fiat sites are my extent to scribbling in the electronic media. I do read what many comment after an article. The impression i get is that many of the contributors get very caustic and personally insulting to others that dont share their view. If they did this in real life, they would be fired, divorced, and/or disowned by their parent, kids, and friends.
Does this mean that the commentors can hide behind the anonimity of media and say what they really feel inside, or is this just an outlet to let all the nastiness out that is kept bottled up in the real world.

I think all of the above. Rarely will people be rude right to your face in a discussion but sometimes they certainly will. One of the main reasons is that on a forum it's relatively safe. No one is going to punch you in the face or demand that you be fired etc. So you can be who ever you want to be or who you really are on line with ease. Clearly people are always frustrated and would love to tell that guy at work or the customer on the other side of the counter what for but there are consequences for that where here the worst that could happen is you can't log in any more and have to troll around on another forum to vent. Also on this site people are relatively forgiving, being you can vent, rant and rave about something and you are not hated or banned immediately. Most of the users on this site just see it as passion on a subject and can look past the difference of opinion. People are rude to those they know will give them forgiveness because they can't say what they really want the rest of the time. I would imagine many spouses or significant others would probably be surprised at what some people post but maybe they wouldn't?

At least on a forum you don't get any of the other persons spit on you when they're yelling?

The older I get the more pragmatic I get. I have no problem with people expressing their opinions as long as those opinions are based logic and backed up with facts from a reliable source. When the discussion degrades to the my Dad can beat up your Dad mentality, I simply sigh and walk away. It's one of the few benefits of getting older.......Other than placating my customers, I don't really care what others think. Except I will acknowledge they are entitled to their opinion. Most, if not all of my friends, tend to think as I do, which depending on your stage in life may be kind of scary.
