1968 Spider
1968 Spider
I have a 1968 that needs restoration. I drove it in high school, but it has been sitting for over 15 years. Does anyone know what the value would be on it? And where I would go about selling it. I dont want it just to sit there anymore since I am never going to have the time to restore it. Thanks
Re: 1968 Spider
You'll have to do better than that. Is it an 850 or a 124? 1968's are rare. What shape is it in? Where in the world are you? Post some pictures.
Re: 1968 Spider
I am not sure if it is the 124 or 850. In doing my searching, I think it is and 850 but am not sure. I will run over to my moms today and get some pictures. I am in Montana. The top is in very rough shape, the body needs some work and the engine I am sure needs rebuilt. I was going to restore it for my senior shop project, but never got to do it. Now I have a family and no time to finish it.

Re: 1968 Spider
pics? And where in Montana? Even without a speed limit on the interstate, Montana is still a big state!
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!
Re: 1968 Spider
The engine is in the rear.
I am in Roundup, which is 40 miles north of Billings. And yes, we have speed limits. The no speed limit only lasted for about a year. But it sure was fun!

Re: 1968 Spider
Based on the info you've posted you have a 1968 Fiat 850 Spider.
If this is correct you can start your research her: http://www.automobile-catalog.com/make/ ... /1968.html
If the body shell is badly rusted it is only good for parts. Without serious rust it is restorable but you won't get the $ out of it that it will cost you to do it. Do it because you want to or just sell it off ebay for whatever you can get.

I'm in LIbby, about as far away as we could get in the same state. But throw it on a truck and send it my way, I'll give you a good apraisal

They manufactured the x1/9 from 1972 to 1989. Mine is a 1968.. Yes I have the title
Re: 1968 Spider
Okay, so where do I go to decode the VIN? VIN # is 100GBS0025359. Everything I am finding has to have 17 digits and that only applies to newer vehicles.

Re: 1968 Spider
are there not any badges on the car???
not being a smart arse, but I'm a bit puzzled that you would not know what car you had driven??
I don't know the 850 numbers, but the 'B' may indicate the series and the 'S' is for spider, this is on Wikipedia
"Its technical design was an evolution of the very successful Fiat 600. The internal name for the Fiat 600 development project was "Project 100" and consequently, the internal Fiat codename for the 850 project was 100G (G for the Italian word "grande"—big). The engine of the 850 was based on that of the Fiat 600, but had its capacity increased to 843 cc. The 850 came in two versions: "normale" (standard) with 34 hp (25 kW) and "super" with 37 hp (28 kW). The maximum speed was approximately 125 km/h (78 mph). While it was not a large step forward in technical development, it possessed a certain charm with its large rolling eyes and its short tail, in which the engine sat."
100G | B | S | 0025359
850 grande |Series|Spider| Serial no. (some say the paint code is in here as well??)

Re: 1968 Spider
I am just trying to do some research on this car so I don't screw someone and someone doesn't screw me. I drove this car a long time ago, I was in highschool and that was many years ago and had every intention of restoring it, but now I dont have the time to do it. I need to get over to my mothers to take some pics of it.

Re: 1968 Spider
pretty cool car to drive in high school...I ended up driving an Aussie Holden 4cyl Sunbird (after school actually) which was the poor mans 6cyl Torana...Only wish I had been driving a 850 spider.
Cheers David
