Compatible parts

Post by craigd81fiat »

Hi Folks

I was wondering if the parts from a 1978 Spider would be compatible with a 1981 Spider. I was hoping to use the 78 for parts like windshield, bumpers, roof etc?

Regards

Craig,

Most of the stuff will interchange. Windshields, tops, bumpers are good to go.

There are differences over the years too. So when you want info on a particular part or assembly just search for prior posts on the subject or just ask, seems like someone always has the answer no matter how obscure.

Good luck.

I may be mistaken but the roof bows and tops may not be the same. You can use the entire assembly (bows, top complete) from the early version on a late car but the top itself from a 78 may not fit an 80 bow structure.

Most everything else should work fine.

I could be wrong, but I think the windshield frame is the same. The only difference is the visor mounts, top clamps and front bow.

Doh, just realized kmead said the same thing. Sorry

you could get a parts catalog from international auto parts
and look for the same parts to see if they offer two diferent years
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)
