Are Cam Covers interchangable ?

Post by adrians »

Hi All,

A question - Are the Fiat cam covers interchangable between head sizes .....

i.e. Will Cam covers from a 1800cc head, sit and seal correctly on a 2000cc head ?

I've to two covers from a 1800 motor and I want to polish them and use them on my 2 Litre engine/head.

Thanks

I respectfully disagree mark, if you consider the things that are bolted onto the covers over the various model years.

the covers are interchangable IF you are not worried about what is bolted onto your existing cover.... like throttle linkage on a two litre does not appear on an early 1800, and an early 1800 has some mounting for a EGR valve that was absent from the two litre....

they may all fit the same cam box......but are not necessarily interchangable for EVERY use.

he asked if they would sit and seal, and they will. On an FI 2L there isn't anything bolted to the covers. I've seen many of them with the covers swapped from side to side.

Yep, I believe it's the 1800 that had that gawd awful linkage bracket on it.

And to bring this subject in a slightly different direction (Mark pointed out above that he has seen them changed side-to-side before, which side is proper for the one with the oil filler cap? I have seen pictures on this forum of them on either side of the motor.

Isn't it the case of the early cars/engines had the oil filler on the right side front (exhaust cam) and the later cars/engines on the left side back ( inlet cam ) because of the additional hoses and parts that went with the FI systems ?

On a related note, what about Lancia covers? They look similar, and I like the looks of them better. What about any other covers "in the family" that might fit.

NO the Cam Covers Are NOT interchangable.

You can not put a Krinkle painted one and a polished one on the same engine.

On the subject of polished cam covers ... I've finally got around to having mine polished !

Now what should I coat them with to ensure they stay nice and shiny ! ( no one say "Krinkle" black paint ! )
