clutch pedal cable mount sheared off
Anyone ever have this happen? Naturally, we were leaving a dinner party and everyone was complimenting the car when the pedal went to the floor. Fortunately the cable mount sheared off when I depressed the pedal to start the car - not while driving. Unfortunately, my car is now abandoned in a sort of sketchy neighborhood! Gonna be crossing my fingers until I can get a tow in the morning.

Typically its the fingers on the pedal that hold the cable that fail. You might just need another pedal. If you do you should reinforce it like I did any future failures can be averted.

very common, if you're lucky it's just the pedal and not the firewall too

Re: clutch pedal cable mount sheared off
Hey, I have a 1984 Azzurra that has the same problem---I think. The pedal is held to the floorboard by the spring. I haven't had a chance to really see what the problem is. If it is the ears on the pedal, just how much of a job is it going to be replacing it? I have the Brookland manual which gives me some nice exploded views but no instructions on how to go about putting a new pedal in. Thanks for any help you can give me. Joe

this is a job that requires technique, patience, persistence, and a little blood letting. before you start, get the bandaids out and make an appointment with your chiropractor.

Azruss' description aptly summarizes the mental and physical side of the job. First step is to cram yourself into the footwell and see whats going on. The cable could have snapped or the pedal "fork" broken. Pray for it to be the cable.
Report back and I'll summarize the repair.

GULP! I haven't been this nervous since I had my colonoscopy! I'll check it out and get back----if I'm able. Thanks for the warning. Joe
