Driveshaft marking

Post by Divers »

Wanted to check. I need to replace the pillow block on the drive shaft. Already have the guibo end removed and now need to remove from rear axle. Going to change the ujoints while I'm there. Specifically...what do I need to mark? Is it just the orientation of the front to rear shaft OR front to rear shaft AND orientation to axle???

Thanks...Robert

I noticed a huge improvement in highway smoothness after replacing th pillow block. Please post your results!

This is also a good time to R&R U-joints; they are inexpensive (although unwieldy to replace).

U joints are being replaced. Will be hard to post results since I never actually drove the car :) I bought it and immediately started tearing it apart. It has been a total restore.

So driveshaft is off. Whats up with 13mm bolt heads! Only damn Box wrench I didn't own was a 13! There was some liquid when I removed the rear shaft from the diff flange.....is this a problem? Diff fluid leak?

ALSO....me thinks I screwed up. I was reading my manual not the section on the driveshaft but instead the rear axle section. The book states to mark the driveshaft orientation to the diff flange....obviously I did not do this....I was under the impression to only mark the fron and rear driveshaft.....HELP PLEASE WITH INFO.

I know it's probably too late but just to be safe I try and mark everything. Might not be necessary but it can't hurt either.
