Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
There are several ways you can add bumpers. One way would be to re-install the twin chrome tube style bumpers that many folks remove. Check the "Parts for Sale" area of this forum. Another alternative would be to go with Abarth style bumperetts such as these that are sold by Mark Allison (one of our best Fiat vendors).

Just my 2 cents. If you are going to spend the $ - go for the abarth style or retro fit some chrome bumpers. I have the tubes but shipping is gonna be expensive. Probably be less expensive to buy a rusted out parts car for 500 with bumpers. That way you get extra parts.

Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
Several have kept the tube bumpers but have drilled a hole in the shock, drained the oil and pushed the bumper closer to the car and then drilled and bolted in place. Absolutely no shock absorbing ability, but might be considered somewheres between the rubber bumperettes that look great but won't save squat if there is contact with anything larger than a budgie and the full sized stick- out- there bumpers.

Wow, does anyone have a pic of that done to their car? I would love to see that. Those tubes do kinda stick out there. I wonder if the inspiration came from the old 70's sytle football helmets with the two face barsnarfire wrote:Several have kept the tube bumpers but have drilled a hole in the shock, drained the oil and pushed the bumper closer to the car and then drilled and bolted in place.

I've got smoke comming out of my ears trying to think/remember, but I suspect Craig (ga.spyder) might have done it to his car.

Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
I compressed my bumpers by drilling a hole in the shocks and pushed them in. It was an easy process and IMO it cleans up the lines of the car. The added advantage is that even compressed they do provide some level of protection from the shopping cart collisions so common in parking lots.

Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
As you have no bumpers at all, it is worth considering the retro bumpers option too, as they are much nicer than original big chrome (and damned heavy) tubes.
Then you choose.

Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
No matter how you slice it, the tubes just don't belong! If you have them and love them then great. I have them and I find that the more I look at them, the more I hate them. The Abarth bumperetts are a nice look. Yet, I think I prefer the chrome version best. Does anyone know where to get a set? I suppose ebay.
As for the original post, I suppose ebay would be a great source for the tubes as well.

Re: BUMPERLESS IN MINNESOTA
i am curious if the bumperettes would qualify as bumpers..... original poster is looking to satisfy a law about bumpers... just a thought.... i also tucked in my tube bumpers and thought it was a lot better look than them sticking out.... it lasted about 4 months then i removed them and it would take a law to make me get them again.... retro bumpers are the way to go if i had to do it.... but i dont so bumperless i will stay.....

Hi Jim,
I'm partial to the early bumpers and early directionals. They look great. Want some pics?
