If you do a search there are several threads on this. You'll find people have used lots of things successfully and unsuccessfully.

I used JB Weld (after some unsuccessful mirror glue attempts) on my 81 and it has held for a year and a half so far.

Those latches pull to hard, I tried everything I could find and waited 24 hours instead of the require 8 or 12 hours suggested and on a hot day they still popped off and took the glass with the latch. The only thing I saw that might work was one that wrapped around the glass, or if the latch was modified so it didn’t pull so hard, like file some of the material off.

I had them glued on by a auto glass company who guaranteed their work for life and they still popped off, taking a layer of glass with them. So mine are now in the map pockets where they belong.

When I did mine the vent windows were very hard to close. I looked at the rubber seal and there were two flanges - an inner and an outer. I assumed, but don't know, that it was an aftermarket gasket and simply didn't fit as well as the original. The window was never going to close without a lot of force with the two flanges so I carefully cut out the inner one with a razor. The window then closed nicely with no extra force required. It looks like it completely seals against the outer flange, but since I've never had the car out in the rain I cannot swear that it is water tight.

If the latches are trying to hold the window closed against a constant pressure it's unlikely (as several have said) that any fastening method will work. Make sure the window closes and can be held closed with minimal force before you glue the latch.

A couple of other suggestions:

- make sure the latch is rotated in the right position before you glue it!
- with JB weld I lightly clamped it and left it for 24 hours.
- I masked off the area around the mounting point with masking tape. This helped locate the latch when I was gluing it and it kept stray JB weld off the window.
