does anybody have an idea what a fiat spider shell weighs? i'm looking into buying one two hours from my house and need to make arrangements to get it home it will be the following:
no engine or trans,
no doors,
no hood,
no trunk lid,
no roof,
no interior,
no bumpers
it will have the rear-end and front suspension with (my wheels and tires) for transport
just a side note, this is supposed to be a rust free body (the whole reason i need it)
the person wants $400.00 firm. is this a good deal considering what not included on the body?
thank you for any insight you might have

I paid $300 for a complete shell ( included doors, trunk and hood) plus all of the under carriage stuff minus tires/wheels. Brought it home on a trailer from u-haul - $65.00

where did you find a rust free car up in Rhode Island? was it in Buddy Cianci's garage? LOL i thought "rust free" up there meant you didn't have to pay for the rust!
you got a good deal on your body. for some reason they are hard to find in the middle southeast! i had to drive 5 hours towards Florida even to find a fiat to buy! and i ended up with one that had been titled in North Ohio with a bunch of well hidden rot and rust. Phyllis Dillers body looks better than this car!

They are out there, I found mine on CL in Springfield MA, not a spec of rust. Had to look at an awful lot of them though!

i hear that! people have a different opinion of what body rot is. and they seem to get annoyed when you know right where to look and point it out to them!

The shell weighs about 300 lbs. Maybe another 100 for rear axle, front suspension, wheels and tires. Five hundred total on the high side.steve8462 wrote:does anybody have an idea what a fiat spider shell weighs?

thank you, you have saved me a bunch on renting a trailer that would have been overkill

Re: boned out weight
Got in New Hampshire. About 200 miles round trip. It isnt without imperfections. The guy stripping it opend the door into the side of his garage foundation and flattened the edge of the door, and the passenger side floorpan has some rust, but other than that it is in good shape. Was originally white and then poorly painted red. Its the one in the avitar.. I'm working on fixing the floor now and will swap out the door from my parts car ( amazingly no rust on the doors but the rest of the car is rotted) Then strip the paint and refinish.

Re: boned out weight
i actually look forward to going with the boned out shell. that way i can drive the first one adding parts along the way while i have the shell in the garage tweaking it to perfection. then in one incredible weekend move all the parts over to the newly painted shell and out rolls a beautiful Italian beauty! (the car, not my wife! )
