just bought the car..doesnt want to stay running...was running fine for like 70 miles..car had been in garage for few yrs..i drove it home it ran great..installed new fuel filter..cleaned screen on weber carb..not fuel injected..still running rough..do i need to install a elec. fuel pump? ..if so which brand..is there a screen in fuel tank? thanx for any help..bill

there is a screen in the fuel tank, but I doubt that is the problem keeping it from idling. I'd expect that old fuel and a carb that is full of varnish are the culprits

Does this car need elec. fuel pump..?

I wouldn't really bother with the electric fuel pump. But, it might be nice to add one just to prime the system if you are not going to drive it alot. I would take Mark's advice and clean out the carb and tank. Also, for a while I would run double fuel filters untill you are sure that the fuel going to the carb is nice and clean. New fuel lines might be a good preventative measure. When I purchased mine ,which also was stored for many years, it needed a new tank, carb rebuild and new fuel lines. (Lucky for me the PO was nice enough to do the frist two in order to get it ready to sell. :mrgreen:

It does not need an electric fuel pump. The mechanical pump is very reliable. However on a car this age it may need replacing but your problem is most likely at the carb.
