PULLED THE TRIGGER/PHOTOS ADDED
Re: PULLED THE TRIGGER/PHOTOS ADDED
It is worth giving a shot to replace the gearbox oil. My 73 started making a lot of transmission noise with the clutch out and I discovered a very slow leak. Drained the gearbox and it only had around 1/4 of a quart! Replaced the gasket, filled with Redline MT-90, and it's quiet as can be.

OK. I just don't want to get stuck somewhere all of a sudden.

Re: PULLED THE TRIGGER/PHOTOS ADDED
the noise is still the same, isnt getting any worse, just as the PO had mentioned. He said he'd heard it for years and it never really changed. If and when the bearing "goes" Im sure it would be a differnt matter but for now I just live with it. Several other folks have told me the same thing has been going on with their spiders for years as well so it sounds like quite a common issue.

Re: PULLED THE TRIGGER/PHOTOS ADDED
That's funny you replied today George. I just changed my transmission oil this morning. Put in GL-1, and it still sounds pretty much the same, hoping it may go away, but at least I know I have the right oil in it and the right amount.
I will live with it and keep an eye on a good replacement/rebuild.
Post any updates.

If the sound goes away with your foot pressed down on the clutch it may be the Input Shaft Bushing.

Re: PULLED THE TRIGGER/PHOTOS ADDED
It does indeed go away completely with the pedal depressed. I have been told it was a bearing and/or bushing but that it would be crazy to pull the tranny just to replace that(those) parts...
Is that the general consensus?
George
