I'm left wondering if this was done on a bet or if he did it because "he could."

I have a 1975 Fiat 124 Spyder, diesel conversion project that I have lost interest in finishing. Installed in the car is a Kubota 1200cc, 3-cylinder diesel. It is connected to the Fiat 5-speed manual transmission with an adaptor plate and uses the stock Fiat clutch and drive train. The car runs and drives. Brakes are new including master cylinder, calipers, rotors and pads on all 4 corners. The things that need to be completed to drive the car are exhaust, alternator, body and paint. I have new side rocker panels that go with the car as well as other extra parts. Tires are new as well.

Why would ruin the potential of a diesel and a Spider at the same time? Mark I don't think we are talking about the same kind of diesel here? He could have saved an old Land Rover with that motor and donated the car for the Lemon's race. Then again maybe he could be talked into the Lemon's race and when Denice blows the diesel motor everything is still in place to switch it out to the Fiat motor? Not really a bad idea now that I think about it.
