Renew all bush's
Renew all bush's
I'm a total rebuild on my BS1 and want to replace all the rubber bush's and get all the suspension, axles etc blaster and re sprayed ... my problem is finding new bush's?
Mr Fiat does one for $192 + $50 postage to England, then i have to pay another $40 + tax ... and they're ordinary rubber, i'm told to pay more for the new blue non rubber versions??
There are 16 bush's in the kit ... enough to do everything?
What would you do and where to buy?
Nick

Re: Renew all bush's
$192??? We have a front a-arm bush kit for $36.90, they are OEM grade rubber bushes.

If you are in the UK try this company:
I have found them helpful and should be able to point you in the right direction. Or go for a set of poly bushes.

Re: Renew all bush's
Well, for what it is worth, the bushes from Autoricambi have been on my BC boupe for over three years. I am in middle of replacing the tranny and had a good look at them just recently, and they look absolutely brand new with no signs of deterioration at all.
Re: Renew all bush's
Wow ... can't believe how helpful everyone is and such good tips;
Vicks does a great catalogue and some good stuff - i'm keeping mine original but really fancy one of their large bore exhuasts.
Middle Barton Garage has got to be worth a visit.
Spider Point are so slick and comprehensive in what they do ... i use their online catalogue for reference.
And i've learned some Latin!!!
So having looked ... is it worth spending the extra for Poly Bush's (do normal rubber ones really 'go off' with 6 months?
Do the Poly ones really make the ride hard? ( i like my comfort)
Thanks everyone.

Re: Renew all bush's
From what I've heard Poly-bushes are very hard, and can break or wear out really quickly.

Re: Renew all bush's
had a set of poly bushes fitted to my rear end for testing. very hard ride and took about half an hour to break rear suspension arm. after a week chasis started cracking at pounting point. anything that's, let's say, 50% harder than original bushes will end up making serious damage.

Re: Renew all bush's
If you got the dough it is a hell of a lot easier to replace the arms with the bushings and ball joints already installed. I just finished going through this and I ain't no pro mechanic that is for sure. After doing it I would never do just the bushings.

Re: Renew all bush's
The swaybar and shock bushings look shot, but the lower a-arm bushing looks to be centered (at least from the pic), so it is not 'really bad' yet. When they go the part you see starts to fall off in chunks, and the pivot is no longer centered in the arm.4uall wrote:this post made me take a look at my own and I was wondering a) order new bushings or b) order the new control arms?
IMO the bushings available separately are better quality.

Re: Renew all bush's
looks like an off-road racer. I'd make it a practice to protect the rubber bits with a silicone or wax spray if I drove in that environment
Re: Renew all bush's
I've been hijacked !! ... Thats a first ...
But thank god i have ... i've decided reading the advise, that i'm going to take each front corner off first and replace all the bush's with 'normal' one's (mainly as i like a standard comfortable ride), than i'll tackle the rear end.
I'm doing this for fun and if i mess it up i'll buy the whole section bushed up ... i bought the second car for spares but it's suspension looks a whole lot better so i can play with that if my first go doesn't work (altough my main project car is a 72 BS1 and the second is a 74 CS1, they look similar underneath)
Time to go play in the garage (my girlfried is involved in the Olympics so i've got a few weeks free to enjoy myself in the garage !!!)
Thanks everyone.
Oh, both my cars looked like the one one in the pics (off road use) underneath so i just assumed you have dirty roads in USA ???
